Richard Quigley MP has welcomed the decision by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to reverse its proposed funding reduction for Mountbatten Hospice for the current financial year.

Richard Quigley MP has welcomed the decision by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to reverse its proposed funding reduction for Mountbatten Hospice for the current financial year.

The decision means that no cuts will be made before April 2026, securing vital support for one of the Isle of Wight’s most essential services.

Richard praised the tireless efforts of the Mountbatten team, particularly Chief Executive Nigel Hartley MBE and incoming Chief Executive Becky McGregor, for their leadership and advocacy.

Richard Quigley MP said:

“Full credit goes to the Mountbatten team for clearly communicating the importance of continued support to the ICB.”

However, Richard expressed concern that such a proposal was considered at all.

“Mountbatten Hospice is a lifeline for so many on the Island. It is troubling that it could be financially penalised for delivering such an outstanding level of care.”

Looking ahead, Mountbatten will enter new funding negotiations for the financial year beginning April 2026, and Richard warned that further cuts could still be proposed. He pledged to continue supporting Mountbatten in its efforts to secure the funding it needs and deserves.

Since the initial announcement in June, Richard has remained in close contact with both Mountbatten and the ICB to help reverse the decision. Now that funding has been secured for the short term, he reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for long-term stability.

“The care Mountbatten provides is not just essential, it’s irreplaceable,”

Richard said:

“I will continue to do everything I can to ensure its funding is protected.”
