Richard Quigley MP has welcomed the announcement that three new Best Start Family Hubs will open on the Isle of Wight by April 2026, located in Newport, Ryde, and Sandown.
The hubs will provide vital support to families across the island, building on the proud legacy of Sure Start and helping ensure that no child is held back by where they come from.
“Every child on the Isle of Wight deserves the best start in life, nothing less,” Richard said. “This is a major step forward for children and families across our island, and I’ll keep working to make sure every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
The announcement is part of a wider national programme, which includes:
✅ At least one Family Hub in every local authority by April 2026
✅ Over £500 million in dedicated funding to support families
✅ 1,000 Best Start Family Hubs planned nationwide by 2028
These hubs will act as one-stop shops for families, offering:
- 👶 Early years support to help children develop and thrive from birth
- 🧑⚕️ Health services, including midwifery, health visiting, and mental health support
- 👨👩👧 Parenting advice and classes to build confidence and strengthen family relationships
- 🧠 Support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- 💬 Help with childcare, employment, and housing—ensuring families get the right support at the right time
Commenting on what this will mean for the island’s children Richard said:
‘With this announcement, and the fantastic news that over 7,000 children on the Island will benefit from access to breakfast clubs, I’m absolutely delighted that families will see the real impact of Best Start Hubs. Many of us remember the transformative legacy of Sure Start under the last Labour government, and I’m proud to see that same spirit of support returning. It’s brilliant to see the Island benefiting so directly from policies that put children and families first.’
