Richard stated that the funding renewal was great news for the island and a demonstration of fantastic community spirit.
Richard Quigley MP has celebrated the news that the Daisy Bus service, which provides vital transport for Isle of Wight cancer patients travelling to Southampton for treatment, will continue without interruption, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Islanders.
A community-led JustGiving appeal raised over £7,700 in just a few days, ensuring the service will resume from Thursday. The Daisy Bus, operated by Wessex Cancer Support, had been at risk of ending this week following the withdrawal of funding from the Government of Jersey.
Richard Quigley MP said:
“This is a powerful example of what our Island community can achieve when we come together. The Daisy Bus is more than just a minibus, it’s a lifeline for patients and families facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
I want to thank Michele Newton and everyone who donated or shared the appeal. Your compassion has ensured that no Islander will be left without support during their treatment.”
Michèle Newton, chairman of the appeal, has said:
“This has been a truly humbling experience.
“I’m overwhelmed by the generosity and deeply relieved that this essential lifeline for cancer patients will continue for the immediate future.
“The Daisy Bus is more than transport – it’s a symbol of support and love for Islanders facing vital treatment. It provides camaraderie and friendship for people who are facing the most difficult journeys of their lives.”
Fundraising efforts will continue in the coming weeks, and the community is encouraged to stay involved.
