Richard Quigley, MP for Isle of Wight West, has become the first Member of Parliament in the UK to employ T-Level students in his constituency office, marking a significant step forward in promoting vocational education and hands-on learning in public service.
T-Levels are a new qualification for 16–19-year-olds, designed to provide a blend of classroom learning and practical experience through industry placements. By welcoming students into his team, Richard is helping to demonstrate the value of these placements and the important role they can play in preparing young people for future careers.
“I’m proud to support T-Level students and give them the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a political and public service environment,” said Richard. “Our office benefits from their energy, ideas, and commitment, and I hope this encourages other MPs and organisations to consider how they can support vocational learning.”
The students are gaining experience in areas such as casework, communications, and community engagement, skills that are vital in both public and private sectors. Their placement also offers a unique insight into how Parliament connects with local communities and how MPs support constituents day-to-day.
Richard’s decision to take part in the T-Level programme has been welcomed by education leaders and the Isle of Wight college, who see it as a powerful endorsement of the qualification and its potential to bridge the gap between education and employment.
