Richard Quigley and his constituency team thanked Hampshire and IOW Police for inviting then for a briefing on domestic abuse, and how best to support constituents.

At his quarterly meeting with Superintendent Rob Mitchell, Richard Quigley MP raised concerns over the rise in domestic abuse related emails and calls received and asked if constituency staff could be briefed.  Following the meeting, Richard and his team were invited to Newport Police station for an informative briefing from specialist officers.

Richard and his staff learned how domestic abuse is currently one of the Island’s police’s top priorities. And they also learned how best to support those who have been brave enough to come forward.

“Domestic abuse is a complex and deeply damaging issue,” Richard said. “It’s vital that we work together, across agencies, services, and communities, to ensure support is available and accessible to those who need it.”

Richard expressed his gratitude for their time and reaffirmed his commitment to support their efforts.

“My team and I are committed to helping build a safer, more supportive Isle of Wight for everyone.”

The Police will always try to leave “the door open” for victims – they do recognise that some cases are complex and it may take sometime for the victim you complete the reporting process

Currently there is more focus on domestic abuse as currently they can receive ( in 24hours) 7-18 reports

They are aware that digital stalking can take place are developing an approach , including digital capabilities

They also provide support for children as the Police are aware that children can be victims of abuse from their peers & they are making investment in children DA
